Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

What is Cognitive Behaviour?

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is an up and coming type of therapy that is regarded as the most successful form of treatment when experiencing issues of Depression and Anxiety.  It's success rate is between 50% to 70% and it's framework  consists of exploring our thoughts and moods that affect our behaviour.

Tell me more about CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) was developed in the 1950's by Dr Aaron Beck who decided to test the psychoanalytic concept that depression is the result of hostility turned in towards the self. Interesting right?

Good News! It’s been scientifically tested and is a verified psycho therapeutic method of overcoming emotional problems.

The cognitive model examines dysfunctional, negative or intrusive thoughts through imagery where it influences on our moods and change in our behaviour.

When living with depression we often do not have the energy or motivation to do anything positive. As a result of this, we may become highly critical of ourselves, perhaps tell ourselves off and avoid doing things we once loved, including the littlest things such as getting out of bed.  We start to believe this who we are and it can impact our lives in a negative way. We stopped loving ourselves and rightly so, of course we feel hopeless and not good enough no matter what others tell us.

As part of the therapy, together, we can focus on how emotional issues started, maintained and continue to disrupt our daily lives. We can explore thinking things through and trying out new ideas and strategies based on what works best for you, as we are not all the same.

The therapy will help you learn new things about yourself and build skills to achieve your goals so you can start improvement in your emotional health and mental well being at last.

ABOUT CBT ?

What I do...

As your therapist, I will work with you in identifying, evaluating and responding to emotional and cognitive problems that affect your daily life.

Together, we can enable long lasting change for the better and achieving personal goals through behaviour modification, perspective outcomes with in depth skill based work and learning.

During our sessions we will work closely together in working out to build coping strategies that are unique to you and your life.

Some of the work is exploring rigid ideas or beliefs we may have about ourselves that challenge our way of life. The sessions are mainly skill based for you to learn, understand and change in between sessions, so that you are constantly working on yourself.

Firstly I will offer you 8 weekly sessions and depending on progress and with mutual agreement, you can continue with  fortnightly or monthly support.

The cost of a one hour face to face session is £45 per hour.

The cost of a one hour Online or Telephone appointment is £40.

My goal is to give you the skills to be able to become your own therapist.
